Police: Man beaten after exposing sex offender

LAFAYETTE -

A Lafayette man faces battery, strangulation and other charges alleging that he savagely beat an acquaintance who told a friend about the man's sexual assault conviction.

A probable caused affidavit says 25-year-old Christopher McDaniel Jones became "enraged" July 26 when 32-year-old Ryan Moynagh told a third man visiting a Lafayette apartment that Jones was a convicted sex offender.

Jones left but allegedly returned later, broke into the apartment and choked and punched Moynagh before stomping on his head, leaving him unconscious. Lafayette Police Chief Don Roush tells the Journal & Courier Moynagh was expected to be released this week from a Lafayette hospital.

Jones, who has a 2006 child sodomy conviction in Missouri, is being held at the Tippecanoe County Jail on a $25,000 surety bond.
