Purdue to offer energy workshop for homeowners

WEST LAFAYETTE -

Homeowners can learn ways to make their residences more energy efficient at a free workshop at Purdue University later this month.

The school's College of Technology will offer the workshop Aug. 11 in Lafayette.

Two energy-efficient homes will be open for tours during the event. The workshop will also cover renewable energies such as solar and wind.

Purdue students helped guide the process of gutting one of the homes and rebuilding it as a prime example of an energy-efficient home.

The second home is a solar house designed and built by Purdue students for the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon 2011.

The workshop will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the Chatham Square community center at Greenbush Street and Shenandoah Drive in Lafayette.
