LONDON -

The United States won the Olympic gold medal in women's team gymnastics in London Tuesday. It's the second gold ever for the women's team and the first since 1996.

It's the first gold for the Americans since 1996's "Magnificent Seven." Jordyn Wieber, coming off the disappointment of being knocked out of the all-around, looked solid on vault.

Team USA had 183.596 points. Russia won silver with 178.530 and Romania had 176.414.

The Americans jumped on top on their first rotation with a number of booming vaults to open a 1.7 point lead. With one rotation to go, the outcome was decided and the U.S. women used their floor exercises like a coronation.

Aly Raisman, world champion Jordyn Wieber, Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross raised their index fingers as the crowd chanted "U.S.A."
