FBI counterintelligence vet heads Indiana operations

The new FBI special agent in charge for Indiana is a counterintelligence veteran.

The FBI announced Monday that Director Robert Mueller has named Robert Allan Jones special agent in charge of the Indianapolis Division.

Jones has been a section chief in the Counterintelligence Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington since 2011. Before that was legal attache in Kabul, Afghanistan.

The ex-Marine joined the FBI in Kalamazoo, Mich., in 1996 and dismantling a domestic terror group. He was promoted to a supervisory special agent in the Counterterrorism Division's Osama bin Laden Unit in 2002, working with field offices investigating Sunni extremism. He served a classified, one-year tour in Iraq, with the U.S. Special Operations Command in 2007.

He also has worked in Cleveland and Rochester, N.Y.
