NORTH VERNON -

Indiana State Police have arrested a southern Indiana man on charges alleging that he fatally shot his ex-wife and wounded her daughter.

Sixty-two-year-old James "Darrell" Sowder of Seymour was arrested Sunday night in North Vernon by troopers who stopped him as he allegedly tried to flee the scene in a car. Sowder was being held on murder and attempted murder charges at the Jennings County Jail about 60 miles south of Indianapolis.

The Republic reports officers found 64-year-old Candice A. Sowder dead on a residence's front porch with a gunshot wound to the head.

Her 42-year-old daughter, Regina D. Johnson, was found inside the home with a gunshot wound to the head. She was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital, but her condition was not immediately released Monday.
