INDIANAPOLIS -
An Indiana State trooper arrested an off-duty Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer on drunk driving charges early Sunday morning.
Trooper Rich Myers says one of his troopers stopped Officer Daniel Kepler in his personally owned vehicle.
He confirmed that Kepler was taken into custody for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
There's no word yet on his blood alcohol content level or any measurement from a Portable Breathalyzer Test.
Kepler has served several years on the Metro police force. IMPD Spokesperson Officer Kendale Adams confirmed with Eyewitness News Crime Beat Reporter Steve Jefferson that acting IMPD Chief of Police Rick Hite is aware of Kepler's arrest.
Chief Hite is awaiting more details from State Police before making any public comments about the case. Hite is known for wanting to make sure officers who get into such trouble have the health services they need to help them deal with what may have lead to their arrest or problems. IMPD offers troubled officers confidential help through its Employee Assistance Program.
A source close to the investigation says at one time Kepler worked as an officer in the Grand Jury.
