150-year-old mansion beyond repair, may be razed

LAFAYETTE -

A Queen Anne mansion that has stood in Lafayette for nearly 150 years could soon have a date with the wrecking ball.

Preservationists say the once-stately mansion is beyond repair and that they've given up on efforts to save it.

Gail Brock of the Wabash Valley Trust for Historic Preservation tells the Journal & Courier the house is in "very bad shape."

The house has been in foreclosure for more than a year. The city is negotiating with the bank to buy it.

Lafayette economic development director Dennis Carson says the city Redevelopment Commission might hear a resolution to raze the mansion as early as next month.
