Several overnight fires kept IFD crews busy Thursday. Three of the four burned homes were vacant.
The first run occurred at 2:15 a.m. in the 4400 block of Carolina Avenue, north of the State Fairgrounds and just west of Keystone Avenue.
Two adjacent houses burned to the ground, each a total loss, with an estimated value of $50,000. Code enforcement was called in to demolish the structures.
A little over an hour later, firefighters responded to a two-story vacant residence burning near the intersection of 12th and Keystone.
Estimated damage at that house, which neighbors say has been vacant for several months, is $30,000.
The fourth fire within a two-hour period occurred on the near south side in the 700 block of Parkway, near the south split.
Lisa Swieczkowski told firefighters that she arrived home from work to find the back of her house on fire around 4:15 a.m. Damage to her house is $60,000 and her two cats are missing.
One firefighter sustained slight steam burns to his leg at the Keystone location and was taken to Wishard Hospital in good condition for treatment.
No other injuries were reported at the two locations.
