INDIANAPOLIS -

An Indianapolis man facing a preliminary charge of child neglect is the fourth central Indiana parent arrested for leaving their children unattended in hot vehicles this month.

Indianapolis Metro police responding to reports of an infant screaming in a car found a 6-month-old boy inside a hot SUV Monday afternoon. Outside temperatures in Indianapolis reached a high of 102 Monday.

Twenty-eight-year-old Trevor Gaines told police he didn't realize he had left the child in the vehicle. He was being held Tuesday in the Marion County Jail. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.

A 4-month-old Greenfield girl died this month after being left in a hot car. Noblesville police arrested a woman in a similar case Monday, and a Fishers woman also was arrested earlier this month.
