INDIANAPOLIS -

Indiana Republicans are opening their attack on Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Gregg.

Indiana Republican Party Chairman Eric Holcomb criticized Gregg on Tuesday for his time in the Indiana Statehouse, saying the former House speaker was responsible for spending too much of the state's money.

The Republican attack mirrors Democratic hits on Republican candidate Mike Pence's votes in Congress. Gregg has criticized Pence for not passing any bills during his 12 years in Washington and pushing social issues like de-funding Planned Parenthood.

Holcomb said the candidates' records are "fair game" when asked about Democratic' attacks on Pence's votes in Congress.

The move marks a turn in the race as the gubernatorial campaign enter its final months. Libertarian Rupert Boneham is also running in the November election.
