Indiana group promotes home energy audits, savings

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

A group of Indiana utilities and consumer organizations is promoting home energy audits for Hoosiers as a way to save money and energy during the brutal summer weather.

Officials with Energizing Indiana say they have helped close to 6,700 homeowners since the program began six months ago. State advisors assess homes and generally recommend changes such as using compact fluorescent light bulbs to sealing cracks around windows and doors to save energy.

Indiana Utility Consumer Counselor David Stippler says the audits also help the state meet future energy demands.

Energizing Indiana is joint effort from Stippler's office, utilities and consumer organizations to reduce energy consumption. It is also being used by utilities to reach energy savings required by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
