INDIANAPOLIS -

A family of six escaped an apartment fire at Stop 11 and Madison early Monday. Just after 3:00 a.m., the father, Ian Street, 26, went downstairs after hearing a smoke alarm and found the fire.

Street went back upstairs and took his two daughters outside to safety, but slipped on the stairs and hurt his shoulder on his way back to get his wife and two boys.

The mother, Janna Vancza, dropped the two boys out the front window to the father below, the climbed out, dangled, and jumped to safety.

The father was taken to St. Francis Hospital.  The mother and children were also transported as a precaution to check for smoke inhalation.

Damage is estimated at $75,000.

The family will stay with relatives.

One other family was temporarily displaced by the fire.
