ROSEDALE -

A SWAT standoff situation in Rosedale ended peacefully Sunday night, but not before the suspect shot at police.

Around 4:00 p.m. officers responded to a battery call on South Main Street in Rosedale. When officers arrived, they saw two people running from the home, a 17-year-old girl and her 42-year-old father.

Suddenly, the officers heard glass breaking from a north side bathroom window and then noticed the suspect was holding what appeared to be a rifle, according to State Police Sgt. Joe Watts.

The officers took cover on the driver's side of the trooper's car and, according to police, the suspect fired multiple rounds in the direction of the officers. The shots hit the car, breaking glass and traveling through the dash area, coming through on the side where the officers were taking cover.

The officers shot back.

State Police SWAT arrived, and the suspect, Zachary T. Buza, 19, of Rosedale, came out and surrendered at 7:06 p.m.

Buza was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises - injuries police say were sustained prior to his surrendering to police. Buza will be jailed in Parke County once he is released from the hospital.

Initially, he'll be charged with felony Attempted Murder, Criminal Recklessness with a deadly weapon, and battery, according to Watts.  Additional charges are expected.

The 17-year-old girl was injured during the initial domestic situation, along with her father.  Eyewitness News does not identify juvenile battery victims.

They were treated at a nearby hospital and expected to be released.

The trooper and Rosedale officer sustained minor arm injuries during the exchange of gunfire, believed to be from glass or shrapnel. They received treatment at the scene.

State Police expect to release their names on Monday.
