Diversity breakfast kicks off day at IBE Summer Celebration

INDIANAPOLIS -

Saturday started with the Indiana Black Expo Diversity Breakfast which pays tribute to United Way Volunteerism.

Ellen Annala explained,  "This is always one of the highlights of the year. Really talking about all the wonderful people doing great volunteerism."

WTHR's Angela Cain served as master of ceremonies. After that Indiana Black Expo's Summer Celebration was off and running.

There are certainly a lot of things to look at and a lot of things to do at Indiana Black Expo.

You can stop by the booths and learn about jobs, careers or just enjoy yourself but there is another big issue, safety.

There is plenty for kids to do but they need to be reminded that the year around curfew will be enforced Saturday night.

"Fourteen and under, they have to be off the streets by 11pm. 15, 16 & 17- year-olds have to be off the streets by 1am. Curfew will be strictly enforced," Vernon Williams, spokesperson for the Indiana Black Expo, told Eyewitness News on Saturday.

There are organized drop-off and pickup points at West and Maryland on the north side of the convention center and along Ohio between Illinois and Capital on the south side.

Of course this time of year you can expect both political parties will be represented here. Democrats clad in their 2012 Barack Obama I'm In T-shirts doing their up most to get people registered to vote.

Republican Mike Pence took the time to display his set shot, "Indiana ought to be proud that we have the first Black Expo in the country and it's a real celebration of minority business enterprises here in the Hoosier state and an opportunity to really celebrate the diversity of the Indiana economy."

Which plays right into the Black Expo Summer Celebration theme of We Are One.
