The drought gripping Indiana is offering a glimpse into history.
Declining water levels at the Salamonie Reservoir have revealed the remnants of a town that was submerged when the reservoir was created in 1967.
Assistant reservoir manager Wayne Ley tells Lafayette television station WLFI that people have been visiting what used to be Monument City and have found artifacts including old door knobs and coins.
Foundations of houses and the building blocks of a former school house also are visible.
Four towns were submerged when the reservoir was created.
Ley says he has worked at the reservoir 34 years and has never seen the towns. He doesn't expect any of the communities to be above water again anytime soon.
