Woman dies after car goes into Eastern Indiana lake

RICHMOND -

Police say a woman has died after apparently driving her car down a boat ramp into an eastern Indiana lake during a heavy downpour.

Richmond police say 51-year-old Kathy Tiemann of Richmond died Thursday at an Indianapolis hospital, several hours after firefighters pulled her from the submerged car at Middlefork Reservoir on the city's north side.

Police Lt. Bryan Ervin tells the Palladium-Item that everything indicates the crash into the reservoir was an accident but that investigators are still trying to determine what happened.

Tiemann called 911 for help late Wednesday, saying she was trapped inside in car. Emergency crews rushed to the lake but say it was submerged by the time they arrived.
