INDIANAPOLIS -

Thirty Indiana counties are receiving a total of more than $1 million in federal grants to help low-income veterans gain better access to public benefits and other aid to avoid homelessness.

The Veterans Administration says the grants will serve about 335 homeless and at-risk veteran families served by Community Action of Northeast Indiana and United Way of Central Indiana, Inc.

The grants will be awarded in the following counties: Adams, Allen, Blackford, Boone, Cass, DeKalb, Delaware, Elkhart, Grant, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Henry, Howard, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Madison, Marion, Miami, Morgan, Noble, Randolph, St. Joseph, Steuben, Tipton, Wabash, Wells and Whitley.

The money can be used to help assist veterans with rent payments, utility payments, security deposits, moving costs and other expenses.
