FISHERS -

Mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus have been found in a Hamilton County park.

The Hamilton County Health Department confirmed the positive tests for the virus in mosquitoes in Cumberland Park in Fishers Wednesday. The department says no residents have been affected.

"Although this may be alarming to some, the West Nile Virus is easily prevented by eliminating any breeding grounds and using a mosquito repellant," Fishers Fire & Emergency Services Chief Steve Orusa said in a release. "We urge residents to take precautions and stay informed."

In order to help eliminate breeding grounds for mosquitoes, health officials remind residents to clean, cover or remove any container capable of holding water outside.
