INDIANAPOLIS -
The Military Voter Protection Project is honoring Indiana for ensuring military members and their families participate in elections.
Indiana won high marks Tuesday for working with local military installations, communicating with military families and sending absentee ballots at least 45 days before elections.
Secretary of State Connie Lawson says Indiana works hard to give military members access to ballots. MVP Project executive director Eric Eversole says the state has made military voters a "top priority."
The group examined efforts to provide voter assistance at military bases, use of online election materials and state legislation making it easier for military members to vote. Other states it honored for their work were Ohio, Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia.
