CARMEL -
Several departments were called in to fight a house fire at 121st and Shelbourne Road in Carmel.
The home had significant fire and smoke damage concentrated in the upper floor and attic. The cause of the fire is pending investigation and property loss value is undetermined at this time.
According to Bruce Knott of the Carmel Fire Department, a CFD crew was refueling a truck in the area at around 3:20 am and smelled smoke. When the crew searched the area, they discovered the house with fire coming out of the rear.
Knott said the owners were not living there, so crews had to gain access through a gate at the end of a long driveway.
Using hydrants on the Shelbourne roundabout, Carmel stretched lines down the lane to the house. Extra crews from Carmel, Zionsville, Westfield and Washington Township in Marion County also responded shortly after 3:30 a.m.
There are no reports of injuries. Ambulances were on the scene to provide support to fire crews.
Knott said crews eventually took a defense posture and fought the fire from the outside of the home.
Right now, investigators have not determined a cause or estimated the cost of the damage.
