Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord dies

Posted: Updated:
LONDON -

Former Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord didn't want fans to worry when he canceled a performance earlier this month, but it looks like things were worse than he was letting on.

Lord died yesterday at the age of 71 in London. He died of a pulmonary embolism and had been battling pancreatic cancer. Lord's keyboard work can be heard on such Deep Purple songs as "Smoke on the Water," ''Woman From Tokyo," ''Hush" and "Space Truckin'."

As an early session player, he played piano on The Kinks song "You Really Got Me." Lord also was in Whitesnake before reuniting with Deep Purple in 1984.
