Power outage on north side after manhole explosion

INDIANAPOLIS -

IFD responded to a Manhole explosion at approximately 3:00pm  and  found  a  manhole smoking slightly upon their arrival.

The manhole was secured and IPL was dispatched to the scene.

IPL arrived and disconnected power to the manhole for the safety of the public. Power was lost to some stop lights and buildings in the area, IPL stayed on the scene to restore power to the area.

According to IPL an underground cable failed affecting about 400 customers for 40 minutes while power crews switched service to other lines.

No injuries were reported.
