Storms drop more than 2 inches of rain on N. Ind.

Posted: Updated:

Storms have provided some overdue rain for northern Indiana.

The National Weather Service says South Bend received two point-one inches of rain on Saturday, and the South Bend Tribune says the nearby town of Granger received two point-five inches of rain. It says a 15-minute afternoon downpour created near blinding sheets of rain. It was the first measurable precipitation St. Joseph County since a trace of rain fell July 1.

The Tribune says nearly twenty-eight hundred homes in South Bend lost power at one point.

Weather service meteorologist Evan Bentley in North Webster says other areas such as Plymouth, Middlebury, Goshen and Syracuse did not receive any rain at all. Fort Wayne received a trace of rain.

Even with the rain, Bentley says drought conditions still exist across northern Indiana.
