WEST LAFAYETTE -

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels received more than $27,000 in campaign contributions from Purdue University trustees who later chose him to be the university's next president.

State campaign finance records show the donations came from six of the 10 trustees or their companies and included more than $14,000 donated by members of the search committee established to identify finalists to succeed President France Cordova.

The Journal & Courier reports the donations by trustees between 2003 and 2010 totaled $27,471. The largest contributor was Gary Lehman. The Fairfield Manufacturing Inc. executive contributed $8,500 in 2008 and $2,500 to Daniels' Aiming Higher political action committee in October 2010 following his appointment to the board of trustees.

Trustees Chairman Keith Krach says Daniels was chosen for his accomplishments and abilities.
