Auction set for items from old Evansville arena

Posted: Updated:
EVANSVILLE -

An auction of equipment from Evansville's shuttered Roberts Stadium is planned for next month in what will be the last public event there before its demolition.

Items up for sale in the Aug. 4 auction will include basketball floors and goals, the stage and kitchen and concession equipment.

City-County Building Authority director Dave Rector tells the Evansville Courier & Press that anything that's not being moved to another place will be auctioned off. He says 5,500 stadium seats are being saved for the planned renovation of the city's Mesker Amphitheater.

Officials hope to raise between $150,000 and $200,000 from the auction, with that money likely going toward demolition costs.

The 56-year-old arena was shut down in September after completion of the city's new Ford Center arena.
