All this week we've talked about parenting style, and identifying what kind of parent you are. We have heard from so many parents on this issue, and have taken your questions. One thing a lot of parents want to know from our expert is, "what happens when parents have different parenting styles?"
Community Health Network psychologist Dr. Beth Buckingham said parents with different styles could create problems.
"It's a problem where one parent who really wants to please child and be friends with a child and the other parent is really consistent in setting boundaries. Kids can easily learn to manipulate between parents and parents are sunk at that point," said Buckingham.
She suggested parents talk about this away from the children. Come up with a compromise, but there should never be a good guy-bad guy relationship with mom and dad, or kids will always know who they need to go to get what they want.
