NEW YORK -

Marvin Traub, a merchant prince who transformed Bloomingdale's into an international powerhouse, died at his home in Manhattan on Wednesday. He was 87.

The cause was bladder cancer, according to Mortimer Singer, president of Marvin Traub Associates Inc., a consulting firm that Traub started in 1992.

In a career that spanned more than 41 years, Traub was the CEO of Bloomingdale's for 22 years and helped launch the careers of such iconic designers Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan.
