FISHERS -
All this week on sunrise, we are taking a look at parenting styles, and how your style is impacting your child's development.
Are you a drill Sergeant with strict rules, a consultant with a more democratic approach, a pushover with an "anything goes" mentality, or a helicopter who never lets their child out of their sight?
This morning, a Fishers couple who have seen their styles change dramatically over the years. Donna and Michael Schiele have gone through all kinds of changes as parents while raising their two boys 16 year old David and 13 year old Daniel. And they didn't always agree with each others style.
"It's evolved, it's not always been like that when we first started out we had disagreements. I'd say 'oh you are too hard too hard on them,' but now we pretty much agree," said Donna.
Michael admits to being very strict with his boys early on, partly because of his ten years in the Army, but also because of his own parents style.
"That's how I grew up, my father was very strict with me, his father strict with him, but times have changed."
Donna says she's probably the push-over, mixed with helicopter.
"Because I'm the mom you know, momma's boys so I am the one always still trying to baby them and they are growing up now, I think I'm a push over, I would agree."
Daniel and David agree too.
"When I was younger and it was military with my dad, she was the nice one so I would be with mom," said Daniel.
Both boys say they like the less military style now that they are getting older.
"I think the grip on us has definitely loosened as we've grown older, some times I ask a question and they are like yes, and I'm like, oh, okay, they said yes," said David.
Daniel said, "There has been a lot of changes I think our parents are trying to go to our level find out what we're saying most of time."
