CLAYTON -
An overnight trailer park fire in western Hendricks County displaced six families. The Red Cross is responding to the Sti-Bel park on U.S. 40, where at least six trailers burned.
Nobody was injured.
The blaze started just before 12:30 a.m. It's unclear how it started but witnesses say they saw flames coming from a shed.
Due to the fact this is in a rural area, just south of Cascade High School, it took about 13 minutes for the first firefighters to arrive. By that time, the blaze had spread to five mobile homes, and to grass and trees.
Firefighters responded from every department in Hendricks County.
The nearest hydrant is four miles away, which is why extra fire companies were called to bring water in tanker trucks, according to Lt. Troy Clements of the Danville Fire Department.
Sandy Winkler, one of those displaced, said, "There is nothing in there that's worth the lives that were saved. We're out safe and we're very thankful."
Nina Winkler said, "We just grabbed what was in front of us and left and by the time we were leaving the room, the wall was just fire."
The Red Cross representative on the scene posted to Twitter, "There is such a sense of community at the Sti-Bel fire scene. Everyone is more concerned about everyone else than they are themselves."
