Evansville's mayor says he's working on a new deal to keep a restored World War II troop landing ship moored in the city beyond the current 10-year contract that ends in 2015.

The nonprofit group that oversees the ship is talking with other potential host cities and Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says the need for more promotion of the ship is a key part of the negotiations.

Chris Donahue is a member of the group's board and says the number of annual visitors to the LST 325 has dropped by about one-third since it permanently docked in Evansville after the city built a $3 million dock in 2005. Donahue tells the Evansville Courier & Press that the group is doing its "due diligence" in talking with other cities.
