MARTINSVILLE -

A man is under arrest after a woman was shot dead inside a home in Martinsville on Monday.

Just after noon, the Martinsville 911 Center received a call from a man saying he had just shot a woman in the 1400 block of South Marion Street.

The caller said he would surrender once officers arrived and that a child inside the home was not injured.

When officers arrived, they found a woman shot dead inside the home.

The alleged shooter surrendered to police without incident. The child was not physically injured and is now in custody of Child Protective Services.

Martinsville Police say the alleged shooter and victim recently ended a relationship. Police had no prior runs to the residence.

At this point police are not releasing the names of the victim or the alleged shooter.
