MOUNT ETNA -

A 2-year-old girl died at a northeastern Indiana reservoir where police say she was found submerged in shallow water.

Indiana conservation officers say a group of family and friends was playing along a Salamonie Lake island when they lost sight of the girl Sunday afternoon. Officers say the girl was found within minutes but resuscitation efforts by those at the scene and emergency workers weren't successful.

The Journal Gazette reports the girl was pronounced dead at the lake near the Huntington County town of Mount Etna about 30 miles southwest of Fort Wayne. The girl's name wasn't immediately released.
