Thibaut Pinot of France has won the eighth stage of the Tour de France and Bradley Wiggins of Britain has kept the overall lead as the race entered Switzerland.
Pinto broke away from the main pack during a steep, final climb he overcame to win the 98-mile ride on Sunday from Belfort to the Swiss town of Porrentruy.
Defending Olympic champion Samuel Sanchez withdrew after a crash 35 miles into the stage. He broke his right hand and injured his left shoulder, and could miss the London Games.
