Median Fires Reduced by Fishers Firefighters Watering Mulch back

Posted: Updated:
FISHERS -

As watering restrictions are being issued by Citizens Water, Fishers residents may still see firefighters applying water to mulch in street medians, especially on 116th Street between Cumberland Road and Olio Road.

In June, there were over 70 fires reported in grass and mulch, many of them in landscaped medians. In an effort to cut the number of these fires, Fishers firefighters began applying water to these areas before fires were reported. This resulted in a drastic reduction in the number of mulch fire calls, with less than five reported in Fishers by July 7.

Fishers Fire and Emergency Services will continue to monitor conditions and adjust preventative measures as needed.
