Greene County deputy wounded in standoff out of hospital

BLOOMFIELD -

A southern Indiana sheriff's deputy is out of the hospital after suffering leg wounds in an exchange of gunfire during a standoff in which a man died.

A state police spokesman says Greene County Deputy James O'Malley was released from a Bloomington hospital Thursday, a day after he and Deputy Brad Deckard were wounded at a rural home near Owensburg after responding to a reported domestic disturbance.

State police Sgt. Curt Durnil tells the Greene County Daily World that O'Malley is on crutches but is expected to make a full recovery. Deckard was treated for a shoulder wound.

The Greene County coroner says 25-year-old Michael Lane Jr. died of a gunshot wound to the chest that wasn't self-inflicted. Durnil says investigators are working to determine what gun wounded Lane.
