SOUTHPORT -

One man died in a residence fire on the south side Thursday night.

IFD Lt. Derrick Sayles told Eyewitness News the victim was found in the one room that burned in a residence attached to the Accelerated-Wellness clinic in the 900 block of East Southport Road.

Sayles did not identify the man who died in the fire, pending notification of relatives.

Crews arrived at 11:00 p.m. after a neighbor called 911.  They found the northeast corner of the residence on fire, and found the victim once they gained control of the fire and searched the house.

IFD had the fire under control within half an hour.  They estimate damage at $175,000.

Eyewitness News reporter Jeremy Brilliant will update this story on Sunrise starting at 4:30 a.m.
