INDIANAPOLIS -

Two central Indiana counties have extended their ban on personal use of fireworks.

Friday morning, Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard extended the city's ban due to the ongoing drought and fire threat.

Also, the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners has extended the ban on fireworks and outdoor fires indefinitely.

Mayor Ballard extended the local disaster emergency declaration for Indianapolis and Marion County, and the ban on the use of personal fireworks.

The declaration and fireworks ban continues until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2012. Per existing city ordinance, the use of personal fireworks is prohibited from July 10, 2012, through December 31, 2012.

Ballard originally issued a seven-day ban on June 30.

The ban does not apply to professional fireworks displays licensed by the State of Indiana. To report the use of personal fireworks in Marion County during the ban, you're asked to call 327-3811.
