Medics use bicycles to patrol downtown fireworks crowd

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

In the extreme heat, the large crowds for Wednesday's downtown fireworks had plenty of emergency personnel on standby nearby.

Wearing highly-visible yellow shirts, bike-riding medics rode the canal throughout the afternoon and evening Wednesday. They're watching for aid fireworks fans who may have taken too much sun and heat.

An EMT supervisor said their workload so far has been light. It appears most folks got the message about the importance of hydration in this summer swelter.
