3 women arrested for alleged jailhouse threat

Posted: Updated:

NEW CASTLE, Ind. (AP) - Three eastern Indiana women have been arrested on charges alleging that they intimidated and threatened a woman the trio believed was a police informant.

Thirty-three-year-old Whitney J. Chesher and 25-year-old Lindsey N. Smith of New Castle and 28-year-old Ashley L. Martin of Middletown have pleaded not guilty to intimidation and harassment charges.

Court documents allege the trio made multiple calls to a woman from the Henry County Jail and threatened to kill her and her family.

The Courier-Times reports that Chesher, Smith and Martin allegedly believed the woman had tipped off police about their alleged heroin-dealing operation.

All three women remained jailed Wednesday at the Henry County Jail in New Castle about 45 miles east of Indianapolis.
