GREENE COUNTY -

Two Greene County deputies were treated for gunshot wounds following an incident Wednesday morning.

Sheriff's Deputies Jim O'Malley and Brad Deckard were called to check out a report of a domestic disturbance in the 6500 block of State Road 45 in Owensburg. When they arrived, a man began shooting at them.

Officers returned fire while tending to the deputies who had been shot. Troopers at the scene were eventually able to remove the deputies safely from the scene.

Police established a perimeter around the home and the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Section (ERS) was called to the scene. The ERS team used the Indiana State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team's Robot to make entry into the residence, where it found the male subject, Michael Lane Jr., 25 of Owensburg, dead.

Police did not release details of the original domestic disturbance. The investigation is ongoing.

Deputy O'Malley remains at IU Health Bloomington Wednesday night. Deputy Deckard was treated and released.
