Governor Mitch Daniels will be riding his motorcycle in the nation's longest-running Fourth of July parade.
Daniels plans to ride in the town of Pekin's 182nd annual Independence Day parade Wednesday in the southern Indiana community. The governor will also be the marshal for the parade, which is the nation's longest continuously-run Fourth of July parade.
The Pekin Community Betterment Organization traces the town's first Independence Day celebration back to 1830, making it almost as old as the state itself. Indiana achieved statehood in 1816.
Pekin was struck in March by tornadoes which tore through parts of southern Indiana. A toddler was found alive in a field nearby after the storms but the youngster later died of her injuries.
