FORT WAYNE -

An Indiana lawmaker is asking state regulators to investigate water-pressure problems that are plaguing a private water utility.

Senate President Pro Tem David Long sent a letter to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission Monday asking it to investigate Aqua Indiana's recent water-pressure problems.

The Fort Wayne Republican's letter says if the study finds Aqua Indiana must make improvements, its customers should not pay for those because they've faced two major rate hikes.

Aqua Indiana began buying water from Fort Wayne's utility on June 21 to provide adequate water pressure for the private utility's customers during the current drought.

While only 1,400 Aqua Indiana customers switched to city water, the move was intended to improve service for all customers by freeing capacity in its pipes.
