Daniels shrugs off Purdue presidency critics

Posted: Updated:
WEST LAFAYETTE -

Gov. Mitch Daniels is shrugging off criticism by opponents of his recent appointment as Purdue University's next president.

Daniels tells The Times of Munster the response to his appointment as Purdue's president "has been overwhelmingly positive by every measure I'm aware of."

But the governor also says that with 40,000 students and thousands of faculty and alums he knows not everyone will agree.

A former Purdue dean has pulled a planned $1 million gift to Purdue in part because of Daniels' lack of academic background.

And about Purdue 60 students demonstrated Saturday on the West Lafayette campus because Daniels appointed a majority of the Purdue trustees who elected him president. The governor will start at Purdue after his second term as governor ends in January.
