MADISON COUNTY -

Friends of a central Indiana woman fatally shot last month say they hope her legacy is an increased awareness of domestic violence.

Downtown streets in 31-year-old Amanda Wiles' hometown of Lapel were closed off Sunday as bands performed, stands sold pink Mandy's Wish T-shirts and wristbands and some 500 motorcyclists took part in a memorial ride.

Madison County police say Wiles was killed by her mother's ex-boyfriend after he broke into their home and tied up the two women. Police have been searching for 53-year-old Roy Parmley since the June 9 shooting. Parmley was featured on America's Most Wanted.

Event organizer Diane Wilson tells The Herald Bulletin that Wiles' friends don't want people to just remember how she died. Money from the fundraisers will go toward her funeral expenses and to domestic violence organizations.
