Domestic abuse awareness

Posted: Updated:

A local community is helping raise awareness about domestic violence as police continue to search for the killer of a local woman.

Police believe Roy Parmley is responsible for the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend's daughter after he allegedly broke into their home and tied them both up.

The victim, 31-year-old Mandy Wiles, was a life long resident of Lapel.

Sunday afternoon the downtown area of the city was blocked off for a festival to honor her memory and to bring awareness to domestic violence.

"In ten years from now when people say her name I don't want them to say that's that girl and this is how she died we want to them to say Oh wow look at this girl who inspired change and influenced so many people," said Diane Wilson the organizer of Sunday's event.

Money raised Sunday will help fund a local domestic abuse shelter.
