86,000 still without power in Northern Indiana

FORT WAYNE -

UPDATE: At 4:00 a.m. Monday, I&M reported 51,000 customers out in Allen County (Ft. Wayne) and 1,000 in Delaware County (Muncie). The outages in all counties totaled just over 57,000 customers.

Utility crews were working to restore electricity to about 76,000 customers in northeastern Indiana two days after a storm disrupted power when another storm rolled through the state.

The National Weather Service says Sunday's storm packed quarter-size hail and winds up to 80 mph.

The same storm system first hit the northwestern part of the state, where the Northern Indiana Public Service Co. reported more than 10,000 customers were without power, including nearly 5,000 in Crown Point.

Indiana Michigan Power said 118,000 of its customers lost power after a storm downed power lines throughout the area Friday. The storms Saturday and Sunday caused additional disruptions.

The utility projected that electricity in the hard-hit Fort Wayne area should be restored by late Wednesday night.
