Mayor declares local disaster emergency, bans use of personal fireworks

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Mayor Greg Ballard Saturday issued a local disaster emergency declaration for Indianapolis and Marion County due to the drought and severe fire threat. In conjunction with that declaration, Mayor Ballard signed an Executive Order banning the use of personal fireworks displays.

The ban does not apply to professional fireworks displays licensed by the State of Indiana.

Mayor Ballard's disaster declaration and fireworks ban takes effect immediately and lasts for seven days. Mayor Ballard may rescind or extend the ban should weather and drought conditions improve.

To report the use of personal fireworks in Marion County during the ban, you're asked to call 327-3811.

The Marion County ban does not apply to professional fireworks displays licensed by the state.

The order will not impact the July 4th display from Regions Bank downtown.
