Elderly residents evacuated from apartment complex

INDIANAPOLIS -

Dozens of elderly and handicapped people hope to return to their homes today.

Firefighters were called to the Andrews Gardens Apartments at 3655 Boulevard Place on the city's near north side around 10:30pm.

A tree fell across power lines behind the apartments knocking out power to the complex, which has about 30 apartments.

Firefighters evacuated the units because power crews will not be able to restore power until Saturday. Many of the residents depend on oxygen and need power.

Two handicap accessible IndyGo buses transported residents to the 10th and Central Red Cross building to spend the night.
