Heat wave continues in central Indiana

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

It's another hot, dry day in central Indiana. Although some counties north of Indianapolis are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 7:00 pm Friday, not everyone will get rain.

Indianapolis has had 24 consecutive days with no rainfall. This ties for 10th place overall. Thirty-nine days is the record.

As of noon Friday, it was 95 degrees outside, with the heat index at 110. Highs in the 90s are predicted over the next several days.

This weekend Klipsch Music Center is allowing fans to bring in two one-liter, factory-sealed bottles of water. They'll have 2 misting stations and 15 fans around the center.

The Salvation Army is opening its centers to help keep families cool during this heat wave. The Army has cooling centers open throughout Central Indiana. That includes two on the northwest side:

The Salvation Army's Eagle Creek Corps Community Center at 4400 North High School Road. Also, on the near south side, the Fountain Square Corps Community Center at 1337 Shelby Street.

The centers are air conditioned. Light snacks and water will be available as well.

The centers have also expanded their hours. They're open until 8:00 pm through this Sunday (June 30).
