HENDRICKS COUNTY -
An 18-year-old Centerville woman died Friday morning after being involved in an accident on I-70 in Hendricks County.
The crash occurred at mile 66 in the eastbound lanes just after 1:00 Friday morning with a semi and passenger vehicle involved.
All east bound lanes were closed briefly and traffic was diverted to State Road 267.
State Police say Howard Wilson, 71, was driving a 1999 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer eastbound on I-70 at SR 267 in the middle lane. Alainee M. Elmore, 18, Centerville, was driving a 1996 Dodge Stratus and was on the exit ramp from eastbound I-70 to SR 267.
Witnesses told police the Stratus abruptly turned left from the exit ramp back onto I-70 eastbound into the path of the semi.
The car was struck in the driver's side and both vehicles came to rest in the median. Elmore was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hendricks County Coroner's office.
East bound I-70 was closed for two hours during the crash investigation and vehicle recovery.
